It can often be difficult for seniors, who are often living on a fixed income, to afford certain necessary but unsupported government services (e.g. safety railings, plumbing and electrical fixes, small repairs). For this reason, HSS Toronto contributes 20% of its time and revenue to community support.
This support is delivered in various ways. For many clients on fixed incomes, it means a discount off our regular prices to make the repairs affordable. In other cases we simply do extra repairs on site. Finally, we will contribute time and materials, free of charge, in cases where a senior’s safety, accessibility or autonomy are at risk.
There are no hard and fast rules on how this community support is provided. Sometime it is raised by the community support worker or occupational therapist who knows the client well. Other times it’s through direct contact with our organization. Let us know and we’ll do our best whatever the case may be.
